Another investigation by the Housing Department has resulted in a guest worker being convicted of two offences under the Housing Control Law. The Housing Department says that the prosecution is a timely reminder that people who don't comply with the Housing Control and Right to Work Laws should expect to be brought to justice.
Deputy Dave Jones, Housing Minister said:
"We continue to encourage all employers to make every effort to recruit locally, but we do recognise that, for good reasons, some employers need to bring guest workers to the Island but as this latest prosecution shows, every person coming to live and work in the Island must comply with our Laws. I hope this conviction stands as a clear warning that if people don't comply with the Housing Control and Right to Work Laws they can expect to be found out and referred for prosecution."
