Ian Hardman has been appointed as the new chairman of the Guernsey Electricity board of directors.

Retiring Chairman Ian Beattie has served on the board of Guernsey Electricity for 13 years as a non-executive (since 2002) and has been Chairman since 2011.

Before joining the Guernsey Electricity Board as part of the company’s commercialisation Mr Beattie sat on the States of Guernsey Electricity Board for seven years.

Treasury and Resources Minister Deputy Gavin St Pier said: “On behalf of the Shareholder we would like to thank Mr Beattie for his dedicated service, commitment and contribution to the success of the company over many years.”

Mr Hardman has been a non-executive director of Guernsey Electricity since 2011 and has a background in banking in Guernsey and Alderney. He is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators.

Alan Bates, Guernsey Electricity chief executive said: “Ian Beattie has been a great servant of Guernsey and has always ensured that the interests of our customers have been at the forefront of all our activity. His contribution has been invaluable to Guernsey Electricity’s continuing success.

“Ian Hardman’s appointment to Chairman will provide great continuity for the board, as well as enabling him to bring his knowledge and experience both as a member of the Guernsey Electricity Board and from his previous roles, to bear even further as we look to the future and our plans for significant capital investment projects.”
