A director of Imperium Trust is taking on a daunting feat for charity and fulfilling a lifetime ambition. On Wednesday 3 September, Rhona Humphreys and her husband Russell will start their four-day cycle ride from London to Paris. The journey is over 300 miles in total and the couple will be tackling between 75 and 95 miles per day.
Rhona was inspired to take on the challenge after losing her mother to Parkinson’s disease earlier this year.
‘I decided that I wanted to do something in her memory and, at the same time, raise some money for an incredibly worthy cause. I hadn’t known a great deal about the illness before my mother was diagnosed. Parkinson’s UK offers support to families dealing with family members who are suffering from the disease as well as funding vital research into possible cures.
‘Parkinson's is a terrible and debilitating disease that takes away all independence from the sufferer, not only putting immense pressure on them but also on their carers and family. We would love to see advancement in treatment and a possible cure.’
Rhona and Russell have been training hard and have already just under £2,500. They are funding the trip themselves and therefore all monies raised will be donated directly to the charity. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so via Rhona’s Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/Rhona-Humphreys
