The Environment Department Board has agreed to rescind the existing £2.00 single journey cash fare charged to visitors and to apply a standard £1.00 fare for single cash fare journeys on the network with effect from today (Wednesday 11 June 2014).
This decision was considered by the Board to be a first step towards a phased and controlled move to the 18 month free bus fare trial recently approved by the States as part of the Transport strategy debate.
This decision addresses the much publicised concerns expressed from various quarters in relation to the existing differentiation in single journey cash fares charged to residents and visitors. The Department had been unable to address this matter prior to the recent consideration of the Transport Strategy by the States as it did not previously have the funds to facilitate such a change in the current bus contract.
