The Guernsey Institute of Directors along with Winter Seminar series sponsor JT, are pleased to announce the line-up for the next seminar which will take place on Friday 27th February 2015.

The topic of the seminar is ‘Bridging Guernsey’s future skills’ gaps through education, training and technology’ which will be addressed by three speakers, Saboohi Famili, Chief Executive and Principal at Guernsey College of Further Education, Simon Le Tocq, Chief Executive at the GTA University Centre and Ronald van de Ven, Head of IP Networks at JT.

The IOD members and guests will hear the views of the panelists on how Guernsey fare’s against the UK in terms of perceived skills’ shortages. It will also cover the opportunities currently available in the Islands, focusing on key areas that require review to build and shape an appropriate workforce for the future. Mr. van de Ven will provide insight into the technology industry and how his workforce has already had to retrain and adapt in order to fully embrace the technology that meets customers’ demands.

Rob Jones from the Guernsey IOD Committee said: “This series of Winter Seminars has provided a comprehensive overview of the education system in Guernsey and has proved very popular among our members and guests. The next event serves to review the higher education needs of Guernsey and we are very glad to have Saboohi, Simon and Ronald to provide their perspectives and hopefully bring about some more lively discussions among our guests.”

Tamara O’Brien, Deputy Managing Director, JT (Guernsey), said: “This next seminar offers an insight into how local employers view the recruitment and challenges in creating our future workforce and how further and higher education can play a part in filling skills gaps. Alongside exploring what training requirements are needed to bridge that gap today. It also allows Saboohi the chance to bring the audience up to date with current further education provision and insight into how that may look into the future. We are very pleased to support the IoD in delivering these seminars and look forward to continue the debate around the topic of education and the role of technology in Guernsey.”

The final 2015 IoD Winter Seminar Series will take place on Friday 27th March 2015.
