A landmark sponsorship deal could have a big impact on competitive cycling in Guernsey.

A new team - Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles - has been formed with six local cyclists who will compete together locally the UK and France

Guernsey’s cycling community has to date been made up of individual competitors, rather than the teams seen in national and international cycling. Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles is taking a team approach to competitions and also aims to bridge the gap between high performance racing and Guernsey’s developing cycling talent. The line-up is comprised of established riders Matt Osborn, Tony Bleasdale and Mike Serafin and exciting young talent Alex Wilson, Seb Tremlett and Jack English.

The team is the dream of one of the island’s current professional cycle stars, James McLaughlin, who said: "We wanted to create something unique that would help to support and aid the development of Guernsey’s cycling talent."

James’ role will be to help mentor and manage the team and he brings his experience as a pro rider competing in races such as the Tour de Yorkshire to the team.

Formation of the team has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from local fund administration firm Morgan Sharpe, whilst Adventure Cycles are supporting with mechanical support and equipment, and have provided a fully trained mechanic to travel with the team when they are off Island racing. ‘We value teamwork highly at Morgan Sharpe and many of us are passionate about cycling. The whole office will be following the team’s progress and sharing in its endeavours,’ explains Serena Tremlett, Morgan Sharpe’s Managing Director.

One of Morgan Sharpe’s Managers, Tony Bleasdale - an established name on the Guernsey cycling scene - is an important member of the new team and he has represented Guernsey in several Island Games competitions as well as in national and European races.  In addition, Matt Osborn and Mike Serafin have represented Guernsey at Commonwealth Games level.

The team’s grey and white kit, which they will wear for all races, features flashes of the red and gold of Guernsey’s flag and the team has now been registered with British Cycling.

Seb Tremlett, one of the team’s younger members, took line honours in its debut race in Hillingdon and the team spirit that will be so vital in the coming months started to deepen over that weekend of racing.

In the early part of the season the team have produced some very good results both locally and in the UK.  During the recent Inter -Insulars against Jersey Matt Osborn won the senior road race, Tony the veteran’s title and Jack the junior title.

This summer will see Morgan Sharpe powered by Adventure Cycles compete in the Circuit of the Fens support race and the Duo Normand.
