More historical prints and manuscripts can be put on show at the Priaulx Library following the donation of a specialised display cabinet.

The £2,000 cabinet has been donated by Ravenscroft, which has developed a long-standing relationship with the library. The stockbroking and investment managing firm has sponsored the photographic exhibition in the library’s garden for five years and has also previously donated a number of items including two other cabinets and a microfilm reader.

‘The cabinet is of museum standard with UV coated glass and specialised lighting levels, which are both essential if you want to preserve historic artefacts and printed material while they are on display. We have so many fascinating books and manuscript material within the library but are limited by what we can display because we don’t have the appropriate facilities,’ said acting chief librarian Sue Laker.

‘The Priaulx Library relies heavily on community and corporate support for expensive items like this cabinet and so we are grateful to Ravenscroft for its continued support which allows us to showcase some of the amazing history we have within our archives.’

Toby Peatfield, director of stockbroking at Ravenscroft, said Guernsey had a rich and fascinating history.

‘Every year, thousands of people visit the Priaulx Library to understand more about the history of the island and their families. They have a fascinating collection of artefacts, which should be viewed and appreciated, but must also be protected for future generations. This new cabinet will be a valuable addition and Ravenscroft is delighted to be able to continue our support of the library.’
