Guernsey’s first website to focus on promoting events in the Island – from top DJs to heritage festivals – has been launched.

My Guernsey is the brainchild of a local team of award-winning entrepreneurs who already run one of Ibiza’s leading online guides for tourists. IBZ.TV has a proven track record of promoting events in the popular Balearic island, with over two million visitors to its site each summer. It now wants to replicate that success in Guernsey.

IBZ.TV Director Russell Meakin said: “We all use the internet as a research tool but, up until now, there’s been no single place to go to for accurate information on events and things to do in Guernsey. Yes, there are various online calendars but these all tend to be a small section of a bigger site. Our site concentrates on events to show their colour, calibre and variety so that any visitor or local can login at any time to find something interesting to do on the Island.

“Already, our My Guernsey Facebook page has received over 10,000 likes in just nine months, probably making it the fastest growing page in Guernsey. The new website builds on that solid audience and well-recognised brand.”

Sponsored by JT, the My Guernsey website includes a diverse events and activities calendar. Users can create their own bespoke planner on the site to ensure that their visit to the Island or night out or weekend with friends and family includes the very best of what Guernsey has to offer.

The site includes details of attractions, bars, restaurants and hotels to showcase the very best of Guernsey businesses. It is live today at www.myguernsey.tv from 6 pm.

Tamara O’Brien, Deputy Managing Director of JT in Guernsey, said: “The internet and social media are the default resource used for organising our lives and making the most of our free time.  This is why JT – the Channel Islands’ largest business in the local digital sector – is proud to help support the launch of this new website.

“With JT running the fastest 4G mobile and internet networks in Guernsey, it’s no surprise that IBZ.TV has chosen us to host My Guernsey and I’m sure that visitors to the site will appreciate its speed and versatility. JT will also be supporting a number of IBZ.TV’s forthcoming local music events as part of our successful Summer of Music programme and offering customers the chance to attend some of these events for free.”

Peter Amory, Digital Marketing Manager at VisitGuernsey, said: “The promotion of the Island through digital channels is a key objective of VisitGuernsey so this well-designed and informative website, which builds on a successful Facebook group, is clearly welcome. It is also heartening to see a Guernsey-based team, which has built a successful tourist-focused business overseas, see the potential of its home visitor economy.”
