In need of a helping hand this year, the team putting up The Bridge Christmas lights received a boost from OCS with its 'mobile elevating work platform' (MEWP) or “cherry picker”.
Operated by Gilberto Neto, the MEWP has an extending structure and chassis to facilitate work at height – perfect for putting up the lights.
The Christmas lights set-up, which took the best part of a day’s work, went ahead on Sunday (13 November) ahead of the official ‘switch on’ on 2 December 2016.
Co-ordinating the work was long-term supporter, Mark Webb, who has been helping with The Bridge Christmas lights for more than 20 years. He was assisted by Guernsey Garden Marquees owners David Horscraft and Matt Remick.
Bridge Christmas light coordinator, Martin Search said: "Once again the St Sampson’s Bridge community has allowed us to have a fantastic Christmas light display. I'd like to thank local businesses for their donations but most importantly, everyone that continually puts time and effort into the Bridge Christmas festivities.”
Managing director of OCS in Guernsey, Paul Timms, said: “We know how much people in the area enjoy the Christmas lights on The Bridge, which has been home to our business for many years - they get everyone in the festive spirit. It’s a dedicated team who do such a brilliant job and we were glad to be of assistance.”
The Christmas lights switch-on at The Bridge will commence at 5pm on Friday 2 December after an afternoon of entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas at 4pm. Late night shopping will take place on the 6th 13th and 21st of December.
