56 teams took part in the annual Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay, on Wednesday 27 July, beating last year’s record of 45 teams.

The Butterfield Bolts claimed the top spot in the men’s competition for the fifth year running. The team, which included Tom Swain, Danny Fooks, Rob Smart and Ben Wilen, crossed the finish line in a combined time of 20:21minutes.

Aztec Group 1 was triumphant in the women’s team competition completing their relay with a time of 24:05, and Mourant Ozannes 2 took the prize for the first mixed team across the finish line in 28:37.

The fastest male was Ben Creasey from team E I Sturdza 1 who completed his one mile lap through the centre of town in 4:48.  Aztec Group 1 team member Sarah Mercier was the fastest female of the night with a time of 5:08.

Head of wealth management at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management in Guernsey, Andy Finch, said: “We’ve had another brilliant year and the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay continues to grow from strength to strength, with a record turnout of 56 teams this year.

“The relay race is now an established annual event in the local business calendar and a fitting way to support local athletes – we’re pleased so many people continue to support the event.

“It is highly competitive but there is always a great atmosphere with lots of spectators cheering along the route and fantastic team spirit.”

The course took the relay teams of four runners down the Truchot, along the Pollet, down the High Street, along the sea front, back along the Pollet and finally up Smith Street to the finish line.

Now in its 13th year, the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Inter-Firm Town Relay, held during the Town Carnival, supports the Guernsey Island Amateur Athletic Club (GIAAC) in their trip to the Island Games which will be held in Gotland next year.

The Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management men’s team crossed the line in 13th place with a time of 23:20 while the Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management mixed team completed the course in 27:59.
