AO Hall's annual employment conference next month will focus on issues created by the Digital Workplace.
The half-day event will feature discussions ranging from cyber security and employee vetting to corporate use of social media and remote working.
AO Hall partner Louise Hall will look at different types of online vetting and digital monitoring, as well as issues related to storing data electronically, the ICO’s Employment Practices Code and the use of evidence obtained through monitoring to discipline or dismiss an employee.
‘Vetting and monitoring employees using things like credit checks and social media scraping must be done under the correct legal framework, taking into account data protection, human rights, rehabilitation of offenders and sex discrimination legislation,’ said Advocate Hall.
‘Employers have a lot to consider, regardless of the size of their company or the sector they are in. I hope that this event will help delegates understand the legal framework and avoid misusing information garnered on employees.’
Advocate Hall will also join Mike Loginov, president and founder of Ascot Barclay Group, to discuss cyber threats to business, and suitable security measures. Mr Loginov is a global cyber security strategist and is a Certified Chief Information Security Officer, with more than 30 years’ experience as a retained adviser and consultant to a number of large international organisations across the private and public sectors, including 15 years in financial services.
Senior Associate at AO Hall, Victoria Pratt, will address the conference on remote working and consider management and supervision of workers outside the office as well as risks associated with remote devices and other equipment. Advocate Pratt advises on contentious and non-contentious matters concerning all aspects of employment.
Corporate use of social media will also feature at the conference. Sam Shires, Group Partner at AO Hall, will join Patrick Cunningham and Linsey Burnard from Indulge Media to look at the legal risks, regulatory issues and best practice of using social media in a corporate environment. Mr Shires heads the Corporate and Investment Funds team at AO Hall, advising a wide range of clients on all aspects of corporate and commercial law. Mr Cunnigham is co-founder and web developer at local digital agency, Indulge Media, where Miss Burnard is the digital marketing executive.
The conference takes place at La Seigneurie room, St Pierre Park Hotel, from 9am to 12.30pm on 22 September.
