Cancer patients will continue to be able to attend specially tailored exercise classes thanks, in part, to a donation from Rossborough.
Each year, the insurance broker nominates a charity as the beneficiary of its dress down days. CanMove, a fitness initiative for cancer patients supported by Male Uprising Guernsey and Pink Ladies, was chosen for 2016 after Rossborough director, Steve Moullin, started attending the sessions whilst undergoing treatment for testicular cancer.
Staff raised £1,411.50 and Rossborough matched the money raised, bringing the total donation to £2,823.
‘This donation will go a long way towards providing a service that is instrumental in enabling cancer patients to regain stamina and fitness after treatment. I am proud of my colleagues at Rossborough for their efforts throughout the year and hope the company’s donation can help others in the same position I was in,’ said Mr Moullin.
MUG council member, Dan Collins, added: ‘MUG has supported the CanMove exercise classes for cancer patients since their inception. We know the positive effect these classes have on people undergoing treatment for cancer and the charity is delighted to continue our support. That is only possible however, because of the generosity of the very generous Guernsey community.
‘This incredible donation from Rossborough is typical of that generosity, we would like to thank them for their efforts. This donation will have a very real and positive impact on local people suffering from cancer.’
Rossborough’s chosen charity for 2017 is the RNLI, the winners of the Guernsey Press’ Pride of Guernsey Emergency Hero of the Year Award in 2016, sponsored by Rossborough.
‘Living in a place surrounded by water, accidents will and do happen. The RNLI does an invaluable job in keeping our islanders safe and rescuing them from unfortunate situations and was a worthy winner of the Pride of Guernsey Award we sponsored. It’s great to be able to give something back to them,’ said Rossborough’s managing director, Ian Stewart.
Rossborough, which celebrated its 80th anniversary last year, has supported many charities over the years, including Jumbulance, the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, the GSPCA, GROW, St Sampson’s High Schools and the Healing Music Trust.
