Sea Scouts from 1st Guernsey (Victoria) have two new kayaks thanks to a donation from ABN AMRO.
The two-seater boats, worth £1,000, were presented at the group’s AGM at Cobo, where the Scouts were able to try them out.
‘We are incredibly grateful to ABN AMRO for this kind donation. Our Scouts love being able to get out on the sea and to have two brand new kayas just in time for summer is perfect,’ said Rosalyne Le Huray, Group Scout Leader.
The donation was made as part of the bank’s corporate and social responsibility programme.
ABN AMRO senior receptionist Jen Goodale, who arranged the purchase of the kayas from Gone Paddling on The Bridge, said: ‘I used to help out with the sea scouts so it is a charity close to my heart. I have seen first-hand, what the children get from using the kayaks both up at Scout Activity Centre at Rue Mainguy and on the sea. They have so much fun, it builds their confidence and helps with their sea awareness, it helps them to get the best from Guernsey’s coastline.’
The new two-seater kayaks will mean that even more Scouts will be able to experience kayaking as they will have someone on board to help them.
‘It may be as simple as a lack of confidence for a non-swimmer, a team building exercise between two Scouts, through to those with specific needs that may need an adult or carer to be on hand,’ added Miss Goodale.
