TV antiques expert Eric Knowles is coming to Guernsey with a team of experts for a free valuation day. The event being organised by Dreweatts & Bloomsbury Auctions (D&B) is being held at The Old Government House Hotel on Monday 24th November.

Eric Knowles will be joined by other specialists, including: Chris Hambleton, Head of the D&B Wine Department, and James Nicholson, Head of Jewellery, Silver and Watches at  D&B Auctions and a qualified gemmologist.

The Guernsey valuation day follows on from a successful event in Jersey where one Islander was surprised to discover they had some valuable wine. Expert, Chris Hambleton said he was presented with seven bottles of Chateau d’Yquem from 1955, and five from 1959, ‘The consignor brought the bottles in having no idea of their value and was quite taken aback when I told him he had two of the best and most sought after vintages of the wine. Bidding was fierce on both lots with collectors from the UK, Hong Kong and France fighting out in the room, on the telephone and on the internet.’ The two lots of wine eventually sold for £6,600.

D&B Auctions is now owned by the Channel Island based Stanley Gibbons Group and was first established in 1759. They cover all aspects of the fine art and antiques market.

Eric Knowles is a familiar face from television with a particular expertise in decorative arts and ceramics, he says now is the time to have a dig around the attic: "You might have something which you’ve been wondering about for years, or perhaps a recent purchase or heirloom which you’re considering selling. This is a rare opportunity to consult a team of expert valuers who between them have decades of experience. There’s no commitment to place your items into auction, but we can talk you through the process if that is something you would like to do."

The event takes place from 12 midday to 5pm on Monday November 24th. There is no charge.
