Sure’s 2014 phonebook introduces islanders to volunteering

Sure has taken its charitable support to a new level by using the cover of its 2014 directory to encourage islanders to volunteer.

For the first time Sure has moved away from using images of the Bailiwick on the cover of the phone book. Instead, it features a local online volunteering website.

‘In the 2013 edition we swapped-out the majority of our filler adverts in the yellow pages for charity adverts. We decided to further support charities in the Bailiwick this year – we are again using the charity fillers but have also featured 
volunteer.gg on the front cover,’ said Martin Eon, directory team manager.

‘It is a great cause that gets people involved in their local community and with a telephone book in almost every home it’s a fantastic shop window for the website.’

Through the website, which is administered by the Guernsey Community Foundation, the details of hundreds of charities and needy causes can be accessed. It also allows charities to advertise current volunteering positions.

Laurel Le Tocq from the foundation said that with more than 400 charities registered in Guernsey there was always a need for volunteers.

‘New volunteers come with new ideas, which help to keep our voluntary sector vibrant and successful. The telephone directory is probably one of the very few ways for us to reach every household on the island. Everybody knows that helping out with charities is good – and now they know how to get involved. We thank Sure for their generosity and support,’ said Mrs Le Tocq.

Sure is the only telecoms provider that is contractually obliged, under CICRA’s terms and conditions, to provide a telephone directory.

The company is reminding islanders to recycle their old books using either the clear bags provided by the Environment Department or bring banks.

Sure at Envoy House, La Vrangue, and Waterloo House, High Street; Alliance in Braye Road, Vale; Forest Stores; Iceland in St Martin’s; Le Friquet Garden Centre; St Peter’s Food Hall; Torteval Stores and Waitrose at Admiral Park or Le Rohais.
