Guernsey Electricity has worked with construction company Trant to dig a trench at La Vallette as part of a project to restore the area.
Work took place on Sunday 25 October to dig a ten-metre long trench for a water pipe leading to the Victorian toilet facilities.
The utility was approached by Legacy Team leader Pat Johnson to support the community project which aims to repair the storm-battered and dilapidated bathing pools area. Hundreds of islanders volunteered their time and many local businesses have donated their services to help restore the site.
Alan Bates, chief executive at Guernsey Electricity, said: “It is fantastic that we could offer our services and expertise in partnership with Trant to help restore the site to its former glory. It has been great to be part of this community project and see the tremendous support and hard work of islanders.”
Pat Johnson said: “The people of Guernsey have come together to help make this special area a place for us all to be proud of once again. People power and the generous support of businesses like Guernsey Electricity has made this all possible.”
The area was a popular promenade in Victorian times, but in recent years has become overgrown and rundown. In February 2014, storm damage led to the closure of the pools with the ladies' and children's pools reopening last summer.
The overhaul of the area includes clearing the overgrowth, replanting the garden, restoring viewpoints and reopening the Victorian changing rooms and toilets. The project is expected to be completed next spring.
