Included with these was a charge to owners seeking to transfer a vehicle to a new registered keeper. The Environment Department will introduce this charge with effect from 10th March 2014.

Registered keepers of a vehicle are required by law to give official notification to the Environment Department when a vehicle is changing ownership. The vehicle must be transferred within two weeks from the time of purchase. Once notified, the Environment Department will process the documents and issue new a registration certificate for each vehicle transferred.

The Department has made every effort to keep the cost of administration to a minimum, and until this point has made no charge. This is, however, no longer possible and to cover administration the fee for this service will be £25.00 from 10th March 2014.
