Sam Shires, partner at Walkers in Guernsey, has become a Guernsey advocate.

Advocate Shires, who studied law and commerce at undergraduate level in New Zealand before completing his masters in law at Cambridge, has lived in Guernsey for 12 years.

‘Becoming an advocate is something I had considered for a while as I love being part of the island’s legal industry and its unique history,’ he said.

‘Having the opportunity to live and study in France and experience their culture was the highlight and the challenge. My family, including two young children, moved to Caen for four months and we all had to learn to speak French and study in a different language. I’m delighted to have become an advocate.’

Advocate Shires’ time in France coincided with Walkers launching in Guernsey after acquiring AO Hall.

‘The other partners were incredibly supportive and  the corporate team, which I head up, have been fantastic in maintaining relationships with our clients and handling the workload which has grown as a result of us joining Walkers,’ he said.
