The power of women in business was the subject of the Women’s Development Forum (WDF) lunch earlier this week with guest speaker, networking and publishing entrepreneur Karen Jones.
The event, sponsored by Saffery Champness, saw Ms Jones, owner and founder of international publishing house Citywealth, discuss the Citywealth Power Women Awards that recognises individuals and companies who maximise the potential of women in international financial centres.
One of Citywealth’s aims is to bring business women together for an educational discussion on gender, championing organisations who are promoting good practice and initiatives in this area.
Ms Jones has spent the last 20 year working in publishing and events at various organisations including News International as well as financial and legal print publications.
Ms Jones was joined on the panel by Lisa Vizia, director of Saffery Champness, Jessica Roland, managing partner of Mourant Ozannes and Shauna Clapham, director of Swoffers, all local business women who have been included in Citywealth’s Top 200 Power Women list.
Ms Roland also won the gold award for the Woman of the Year: Leadership (Professional Services) at the recent Citywealth Power Women awards while Saffery Champness took away the bronze award for Company of the year: Female Leadership (Professional Services)
Citywealth was founded in 2005 and is a mixture of publications, events and networking groups which bring together different segments of the market to develop contacts, build business and raise standards in the sector.
Michelle Johansen, founder of the WDF, said: “It was great to be able to host Karen who has made such a difference in celebrating powerful women across the international financial centres, while being an inspirational woman in her own right.
“It was a great opportunity for our members to hear from Karen as well as three of our local business women who all continue to make outstanding contributions in their individual fields.
“Altogether this has been one of our most successful events to date and we are most grateful to everyone involved.”
Panellist Miss Vizia, of event sponsor Saffery Champness, said: “Having a culture of meritocracy within our organisation ensures that career progression and development are based purely on merit, not gender and that spirit was reflected in the event.”
