36 young people had the opportunity to go on a free camping trip to Herm last week with The Youth Commission, courtesy of Help a Guernsey Child, The John Ramplin Trust and Travel Trident.
The trip for 11-18 year olds was organised as part of The Youth Commission’s project week initiative which provides fun and challenging opportunities for young people to learn new skills, make new friends and try a range of outdoor activities.
Three groups of young people, along with staff from The Youth Commission, travelled to Herm from 14- 21 August and stayed in the Seagull Campsite. During the trip they took part in a number of activities including orienteering, kayaking, yoga, cooking and more.
One young person who attended the trip said, “We had a great time. My favourite part was getting to know new people and trying new activates like making a BBQ, kayaking and yoga. I am really grateful to everyone who made the trip happen.”
CEO of The Youth Commission, Kestin Neason, said, “It is fantastic that so many young people had the opportunity to go to Herm on one of our project weeks which provide young people with the opportunities to learn new skills that will help them to lead happy and healthy lives and achieve their personal goals.
“The Herm camping experience was a lot of fun and very positive for the young people who attended as they had the chance to take part in many activities they might not have tried before which helps to build their confidence. Luckily the sun was shining for most of the trip so they could make the most of the beautiful island and all the outdoor activities we had planned.
“The trip wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Help a Guernsey Child, The John Ramplin Trust and the Herm Travel Trident so we’d like to thank them for their generous sponsorship.”
