The Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney has received a three year funding commitment to support its service manager, jointly funded by The Ana Leaf Foundation and Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands.

The Youth Commission is an independent local charity responsible for the delivery of all forms of youth work in the Bailiwick. It provides children and young people aged 11-25 with seamless access to a range of universal and specialist services ensuring they can take part in activities or get the tailored support that is most relevant to their individual needs.

The service manager’s role, held by Charlie Cox, is to lead and manage the range of services the charity has for children and young people in Guernsey and Alderney.  This post is responsible for supporting the chief executive in the management and leadership of The Youth Commission and ensuring the operational excellence of the organisation including effective delivery and measurement of services and internal training.

Hayley de Putron, a trustee of The Ana Leaf Foundation said that the work that the Youth Commission has achieved since its inception in 2013 has already had a great impact on the island’s children and young people.

“We are pleased to be able to jointly secure the ongoing funding of Charlie and look forward to seeing how the organisation continues to grow and make a difference to the community.”

Recently The Youth Commission operationally merged with The HUB service and the two charities are now working together to provide children and young people with seamless access to a range of universal and specialist services ensuring they can take part in activities or get the tailored support that is most relevant to their individual needs.

Jo Le Poidevin, executive director, Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands said: “It is clear that the newly created service manager position will play a central role in helping the Youth Commission achieve its mission.  We’re delighted to be entering into a new co-funding arrangement with the Ana Leaf Foundation, it is a tangible outcome from our commitment to closer working with other funding bodies to better support the Island’s charitable sector.”

Kerstin Neason, chief executive of The Youth Commission said: “The Youth Commission’s mission is to deliver high quality, universal and targeted services for children and young people in the Bailiwick that empower them to reach their full potential.  The service manager plays a vital part in achieving this so we are very grateful to The Ana Leaf Foundation and The Lloyds Bank Foundation for their support of this role.

“With this funding, we will be able to continue to  develop the vital services The Youth Commission provides for children and young people in Guernsey and Alderney, ensuring the support we offer successfully responds to their needs and makes a real difference to their future.”
