The acquisition, which was first announced in September 2018, has now completed and advances MMC's leadership position in insurance and reinsurance brokerage, health and retirement. It also builds on the group's efforts to expand in faster-growing geographies and market segments and invest in data and analytics.
Working alongside Slaughter and May who were advising MMC as an integrated team with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, Carey Olsen advised on the financial regulatory approvals required in connection with the acquisition in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Jersey and Guernsey.
The Carey Olsen team advising MMC on these aspects of the transaction included partner Mary Ward (pictured) and counsel Adam Bathgate in Bermuda, partner Nick Bullmore and counsel Graham Stoute (Cayman Islands), partner Christopher Anderson and senior associate Arya Hashemi (Guernsey), and partner James Willmott and counsel David Allen (Jersey).
Ms Ward commented: "Working together as a cross-jurisdictional team from Carey Olsen, we were delighted to assist MMC on such a significant transaction and expansion of its business. The deal also underlines Carey Olsen's global M&A expertise and the firm's ability to advise on deals of this size and complexity."
