JOIN OUR RECRUITMENT TALENT POOL FOR THE AIRPORT RESCUE AND FIREFIGHTING TEAMThe purpose of a talent pool is to have successful candidates ready for the final stage of recruitment when a vacancy arises. We will hold your details and the stages of recruitment you have successfully passed for a period of 6 months. In rank order you’d be put forward for the final stage of recruitment when the next vacancy arises.
After the 6 month period, if you have remained in the talent pool, we will contact you to check whether you’d like to continue to be held in our talent pool, and if you do, we’ll check if there is any information that you’d like to update with us.
THE ROLE As an Airport Fire Fighter, you’ll contribute to the development of airside safety by reducing the risk to passengers, the community and environment. Primarily we’re here to protect and save people from fire and other hazards in the safest, most competent and effective manner. Whilst fighting fires is not an everyday occurrence, you could be called to any type of incident, either minor or major and we prepare ourselves for this with regular training being a big part of the role. In addition to training, we’re also involved with supporting our integrated operations, provide on-site medical expertise, actively monitoring aviation safety, conducting runway surface inspections, wildlife management and perimeter security.
Of course, a good level of fitness and eyesight, along with a clean driving license and being able to obtain and maintain HGV, are essential. Initial training is intense, and your competence is continually assessed. We’re interested in what you can bring to this team rather than what you’ve done in the past.
We operate on a 3 watch shift roster and standby basis and a high level of security clearance is a requirement for the role. To apply, we’d like to know what interests you in the role, why you think you would be great at it and what you would bring to this role.
At this stage, this is an open recruitment campaign and we’ll be undertaking the first review of received applications after the 8th of November with a view to holding the first assessment day on either Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th November. If you are successful at shortlisting we will be in touch with an assessment date. The assessment day will include a fitness test as well as various fire service related tasks. The fitness test will be a 20-metre bleep test to the level of 8.8.
