Who are we?
The Société Jersiaise was founded in 1873 for the study of Jersey
archaeology, history, natural history, the ancient language and the
conservation of the environment. Operating from our own building in the centre
of St Helier, we offer unparalleled resources in our library and photo-archive
including published works, local ephemera, maps, a unique collection of photographs,
as well as many unique collections reflecting the history of our special island.
What is the role?
We are looking for a proficient and passionate management professional
to provide organisational, financial and fundraising leadership across all our services.
You will need proven financial acumen to
account for the delivery of Société services and support the development of activities
and our reach, as well as rolling out a five-year strategy. The role
involves the planning of activities, overseeing budgets, reporting, and the
management of various properties. As the head of a small team, you will be
hands-on when leading initiatives and act as the public face of the Société on
all public and community engagement, together with reporting to the Executive
Committee on all issues.
Who do we need?
The successful applicant will have a passion for all aspects of Jersey’s
heritage as well as a proven management and leadership record. Candidates
should possess the ability to lead and inspire our team, fully engage with all
parts of the Island’s community, and project a can-do attitude. Experience of spoken French, and an interest
in Jerriais will be an advantage.
As a service provider we require an excellent command of verbal and
written English, the adaptability to learn new processes, a proficiency in
office systems and the ability to get the most from our membership database and
other core applications. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a flair
for leadership, negotiation, teamwork and the ability to deliver a first rate
service to our members and other customers. An understanding of and commitment
to the Société’s mission and values will need to be demonstrated.

Full time role for fixed five-year term initially. Salary dependent upon experience but a guide of £50-55k per annum.
