Full Description

As a key member of the finance team the Finance Operations Manager will be responsible for developing the finance operations staff and finance systems to drive efficiency within the department and throughout the business. To do this the candidate will be required to build strong relationships with both all levels of the organisation and key external stakeholders. Key responsibilities:
  1. Understand day to day finance procedures and systems, make suggestions and implement changes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  2. Prepare and develop the monthly Financial Operations Report, using own judgement, to add data, information and commentary to enhance value for senior management.
  3. Be an integral part of the monthly financial close process, preparing journals, reviewing P&Ls and being solely responsible for all monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  4. Play a key part in the annual audit providing timely information to the external auditors.
  5. Responsible for maintaining fixed assets within the finance system. Including additions, disposals, depreciation, revaluations and reporting of all Ports of Jersey’s fixed assets.
  6. Undertake ad-hoc projects as and when required. Applying professional judgement and experience to highlight issues and/or concerns to Senior Managers, Executive Team or Ports of Jersey Board.
  7. To deputise for the Financial Controller and step in for Finance Operational staff in periods of absence.
  8. Actively contribute to the Ports of Jersey's business change programme.
Key personal qualities:
  1. Preferably educated to degree level or equivalent. Part-qualified/finalist/qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  2. Proven working experience in a relevant professional environment.
  3. Sound knowledge of financial controls and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of FRS 102 accounting standards.
  5. Demonstrable experience of improving systems, procedures, management accounting and reporting.
  6. Excellent analytical and modelling skills.
  7. Advanced Excel skills and experience of working with multiple financial systems.
  8. Good time management skills.
  9. Personable, professional and self-motivated.
  10. Able to work with all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders.
  11. Ability to priorities own workload and meet deadlines.
  12. Strong team ethic.
