Full Description

Job Title: Investments Specialist / Product & Service Support (LEVEL 3-4 depending on candidate)
Business Unit: Alexander Forbes Investments Jersey Limited (AFIJ) (the “Company”), part of the Alexander Forbes Offshore group.
Direct Report: Operations Director - AFIJ
Location: Jersey

Context
  AFIJ is a small Jersey based team, which leverages meaningful scale within the Alexander Forbes Group, requiring a less hierarchical approach but still structurally focussed on delivering the business units’ broad objectives.  The role is thus varied and requires a strong team ethic and daily collaboration whilst maintaining independent thought and initiative. As such, initial and ongoing emphasis within the role will vary over time.     Alexander Forbes Investments adopts a multi-management investment strategy in the construction of client solutions to achieve, where appropriate, diversification across asset types, investment styles and strategies using a world-class investment manager research programme to understand the investment philosophies and investment strategies employed by asset managers. Consistently applied investment strategies helps build portfolios with reliable investment performance aligned to expectations.  

Client
  AFIJ end-client contact is mostly via AF Wealth and Pension Advisory and Administration teams: Distribution Channels. This represents both private individual and corporate clients.  As such, these Distribution Channels are AFIJ’s clients, whilst their clients will be investors in our range of funds.   As such, from a direct relationship management and servicing perspective, interfaces are more likely with those distribution channels, and may include certain corporate pension schemes’ board of Trustee and Employer representatives.   Indirectly, everything AFIJ does has an impact on the end-client, the investor, be that through general communications or handling individual client transactions or queries.  
Legal and Regulatory   The Company is a fund management company charged with the management and administration of certain Jersey domiciled and regulated collective investment scheme portfolios designed to serve Alexander Forbes Group Private Wealth Management and Corporate Pension scheme needs.   AFIJ is a regulated Funds Services Business and operates based on significant outsourcing of routine activities – however mind and management of the business is domiciled in Jersey.  Essential to the operation of the company is efficiency and effectiveness, which must drive all productivity and practice.

Job Purpose Summary

General Duties   The role encompasses two primary areas of focus – Product and Client Services.
This includes; ·        

Oversight of the investment management process of the Company’s investment solutions, ranging from the investment decision making process through to operational implementation into portfolios and oversight thereof, working as relevant with local and SA based investment and operations teams. ·         

Delivery of requisite client services and product support to distribution channels in the wealth management space (retail) and corporate clients in both Jersey and SA, including but not limited to supporting the client report-back process and managing client communications process for Jersey.   

Additionally, the incumbent is expected to
  • contribute to the development of the investment funds offering in line with requirements and opportunity and assist with the generation of new business opportunities and channels.          
  • assist in the strategic implementation and achievement of the Company’s business plan.  

The role requires a degree of independent evaluation and ability to generate (or review) solutions and proposals for management consideration, organisational skills, an ability to co-ordinate conflicting priorities, attention to detail and good time management.  

Qualifications / Skills & Competencies  
Formal Qualifications Relevant industry qualifications desired, e.g., Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (ACSI / MCSI qualified) or similar to support areas of strength.  
Required Experience Excess 5 years relevant client facing / investment fund experience. Familiarity with and understanding of managing investments, including a working knowledge of asset classes, investment management styles, and headline macro-economic themes.  
Limits of Authority Authorised signatory level in accordance with internal signatory mandates to be confirmed   Management Structure Member or Attendee of certain management committees including Risk Committee, Investment Committee, and Management Committee  
Approved correspondent with; ·        
Funds business service providers (i.e. Trustee, Auditors, etc.) ·        
Distribution Channels and external client representatives
