This role assists the Ports of Jersey Marine Section Master in safely directing and coordinating all marine operations carried out by Ports of Jersey’s Marine Services vessels and staff. Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of all marine services assets. To work as a relief Master when necessary, taking over the full responsibilities of that role. Once qualified, act as a Marine Pilot for Ports of Jersey. Key responsibilities:
Deputise as the Master in all matters during times the Master is absent.
Ability to use all available assets within the Marine Section as appropriate, assist with any maritime emergency in Channel Islands waters, as requested by Jersey Coastguard.
Manage the planned maintenance schedules in order to keep all marine services assets and equipment in good working order.
Maintain and adhere to the Safety Management Systems.
Once qualified as a Marine Pilot, carry out pilotage duties within a rota.
Key personal qualities:
Hold the STCW Basic qualification: Personal Survival Techniques / Fire Fighting / Basic First Aid / Personal Safety and Social Responsibility.
Minimum Master MCA 200 GT limited certification and a willingness to achieve an OOW COC as soon as possible.
Valid ENG 1 medical.
Excellent small ship handling skills.
Good level of computer literacy and key board skills.
A keen and dedicated approach to health, safety and environment within the work place.
