Technical Director (Underwriting)
Jersey, Channel Islands / Competitive Salary + benefit package
Islands Insurance is one of the Channel Islands leading general insurance brokers serving a wide range of individual and corporate clients. It has over 50,000 customers and over 100 employees who are based in offices in Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney. The role of Technical Director is critical in preserving this arrangement by demonstrating to insurers that Islands adheres to the highest professional standards.

This is an exciting time to join the company as it is going through a period of rapid strategic change. This includes the design and implementation during 2018 of new, industry leading insurance software that will support the operation of the whole company, but will be of particular interest to the Technical Director.

To be considered candidates will need to demonstrate expertise in the following areas:
• Insurance qualification - ACII minimum (or equivalent).
• A comprehensive general insurance background and knowledge.
• Significant general insurance underwriting experience at a senior level.
• Knowledge of the insurance market in the UK, including Lloyds of London.
• The development and implementation of a strategic underwriting plan aligned to sales strategy that is designed to deliver agreed target GELRs over the long term.
• Ensuring that products match the opportunity in a marketplace in meeting the needs of customers.
• Negotiation with insurance suppliers regarding products and terms of business.
• Developing technical excellence in a team by monitoring quality of output and adequacy of training to ensure effective pricing, controls and risk selection.
• The ability to drive change within the business and company culture.
• Delivering service excellence in a customer focussed environment.
