Ports of Jersey are recruiting for Trainee Air Traffic Controllers

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit for 2 Trainee Air Traffic Controllers to join our Air Traffic Control team here at Jersey Airport.

The role can be intense and fast paced as well as exciting and dynamic.  We’ll invest in you and your training which will involve going to a UK training college, then following a period of local internal training and support, it won’t be long before you’re a part of controlling a large area of airspace, up to 20,000 feet that includes Guernsey, Alderney and the English Channel.  You’ll be trained to work in our control tower and the radar room too, where you’ll handle all different types of traffic from commercial, military and private aircraft, all passing through Jersey’s airspace.

As part of your training and development programme you’ll get to experience some of our air traffic control support functions and broader integrated operations so you can get a real feel for the operation and how we work together.  You’ll also get the opportunity to get involved in our ambitious sustainability programme, wellbeing initiatives and many other projects. We’re looking for applicants with a ‘can do’, professional and enthusiastic attitude, ready to commence employment with us and a comprehensive training and development programme to start in September 2022.

Your off-island training dates will be between October 2022 and March 2023 (with a break for Christmas and New Year) at Global ATS College in Gloucestershire.  Whilst we always like to be as flexible as we can, unfortunately we have no control over the training dates set by the college and this training is a necessary requirement for the role.  To hold an Air Traffic Control licence you must be 21 years or older by 01 July 2023.

As part of the recruitment process, you’ll need to do an aptitude test which involves a set of cognitive ability and multi-tasking tests, these will take place week commencing 23 May 2022.  Following your successful results, you’ll be invited to a competency-based interview.  An initial medical will also need to be completed which we will arrange following an offer of employment.

If you’d like to find out more about this opportunity, you can email atcrecruitment@ports.je and we’ll get back to you.

Closing date for applications: 19 April 2022
