Full Description
At Ogier, we’re looking for the next generation of leaders to keep us moving forward. We’re offering a platform to Be Extraordinary – a collaborative work environment, new technology, and to be part of an international law firm that wants to do things differently. What we’re looking for is not just technical expertise. We want someone who is curious, who can build relationships, and who is excited by becoming a key part of our future, in our innovative, inclusive environment.
We know that investing in emerging talent is investing in our future leaders and we're always looking for people who fit in with the Ogier vision and culture.
Applications are now being accepted for Ogier's 2024 trainee solicitor intake in Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
Our highly successful Channel Islands trainee scheme provides a structured training programme, regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the equivalent of those run by City law firms, where trainees rotate through different teams over a two-year period.
As a result of the recent SQE introduction, there are now more opportunities than ever to train as an England & Wales solicitor and Ogier are able to offer aspiring lawyers a choice in how they qualify with us through the SQE route.
Ogier has been training England & Wales solicitors for more than 18 years, with former Ogier trainees at every level of the firm, from associate through to partner. Centring flexibility and finding a route that works best for the candidate's particular circumstances, our enhanced offering provides a number of pathways to qualification:
SQE Route
1. Learn then earn
Candidates will study for SQE 1 and SQE 2 full time over the course of a year, and then join Ogier for a 24-month rotational work experience.
2. Earn while you learn
Candidates complete SQE 1 and 2 during their 24-month rotational work experience (individuals will need to have 12 months or more paralegal experience at Ogier or a comparable firm)
The pathways include financial support to undertake SQE preparation courses and exams.
LPC Route
Ogier is continuing to support the LPC route to qualification for candidates who have already completed or started the LPC and meet the Solicitor Regulatory Authority's (SRA's) transitional requirements.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
We are looking for the very best trainees to join us: the next generation of our firm must be ambitious with strong academic achievement and ready to drive our business forward.
Applications are invited from individuals who are either about to start their SQE / LPC studies or have recently completed / due to complete SQE level 1 and 2 or the LPC.
The academic requirements for acceptance onto our England & Wales Trainee Solicitor programme are:
- Either successful completion of SQE 1 & 2 or commendation / distinction in your LPC (where applicable)
- Commendation or distinction in your GDL if relevant (applicable to LPC route only where candidates hold a non-law degree)
- 2:1 Degree (non-law degree background welcome)
- Two A grades and one B grade at A-Level (or the equivalent in UCAS points)
If your initial application stands out, you will be progressed to the interview stage. All interviews are conducted via remote conference with our trainee supervisors and Training Principal. Simple, transparent, to the point.
If you are successful, we will then issue an offer which (where applicable) is conditional upon you either passing both the SQE 1 and 2 or achieving a commendation / distinction as a final result for the LPC, depending on which route you have taken.
*Please note, an application for the "Earn while you learn" pathway requires an individual to have 12 months or more paralegal experience at Ogier or a comparable firm. Please reference which pathway you are interested in when applying.
With more pathways available to support individuals at different stages of their career, whether you're a current paralegal considering your options or looking to progress onto the traditional training programme route, it’s a great time to join our award-winning firm.
If you meet our entry requirements, then we'd love to hear from you!
