Nearly £4,000 raised after worker's scaffolding fall

Thursday 04 February 2021

Nearly £4,000 has been raised in little over 24 hours to support the construction worker, who was seriously injured after falling from collapsing scaffolding.

The man, who is in his 30s, fell from a platform at the Ann Street construction site yesterday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital and remains in "serious condition".

Police said no arrests have been made, but the Health and Safety Inspectorate has launched an investigation into what happened.

Richard Long, who does not know the construction worker affected, decided to set up £1,000 fundraiser to help the gentleman and his family.

"I do not know the gentleman who fell from scaffolding today however, money is always needed at times like this. Anything you can kindly give will be sent directly to the family. Thank you," he wrote on his JustGiving page.

The target was smashed in less than 24 hours, with the current total standing around £3,800 at the time of writing. More than 100 people have donated.

Richard described the response as "incredible" as he thanked the public for their help, and said he had now been in touch with the family to ensure "all monies raised will be sent."
