£50,000 in fines for illegally parking in disabled bays

Monday 27 June 2016

More than £50,000 in fines have been issued over the past five years for people illegally parking in disabled bays in public car parks.

A Freedom of Information request shows that, on average, around 250 fines a year are issued for people parking illegally in ten different car parks: Patriotic Street, Minden Place, Sand Street, Green Street, Pier Road, the Esplanade, Ann Place, Charles Street, First Tower, and Midvale Road.

But the figure could be higher. It does not include on-street parking - that information is held by the parishes.

The fine for parking illegally in a disabled bay is £60, but drops to £40 if it's paid within three working days.
