418 teams, 21,286 laps...the organisers of this year's 50th anniversary Swimarathon have confirmed it raised at least £78,166 for charity, with further funds from the sponsors to be added on top of that.
The annual event is run by the Lions Club, and sponsored by Ravenscroft.
This year, the organisers said that many of the teams were under-strength, with swimmers not being able to take part, due to covid.
“It was a wonderful event with swimmers of all ages and abilities,” says Lion Steve Taylor, Chairman of the Lions organising committee. “The common factor was that everyone left the pool hall with a huge smile on their face. It was a truly uplifting experience to be involved.”
Although the 2022 Swimarathon marks the 50th Anniversary of the first event in 1972, it is also the 50th event since 1972, because the 2020 Swimarathon was cancelled due to covid-19.
