Home-based gym business applies to extend studio

Tuesday 13 September 2022

A small fitness business operating from a private home has applied to extend its fitness studio.

Absolute Fitness's planning application does not involve the building of an extension, but intends to extend the existing gym studio into an adjoining bedroom for a period of five years.

This means that "no floor or site plans will change from the current state".

The current home gym area is just over 22sqm and the new room that Absolute Fitness wish to expand in to is just over 12sqm. This means that, if planning permission is approved, the total area of the completed home gym would be just over 34sqm.

The new 12sqm room would be made into an empty matted studio for the purposes of boxing and stretching before and after sessions. The planning application explains that "this room would allow us to train our clients in separate areas, making them feel more comfortable".

Absolute Fitness said: "A lot of our clients choose to train with us because the private home studio is away from a lively and busy gym, and they are intimidated by other people.

"We provide the privacy and comfort they desire while helping them overcome obesity, anxiety, ailments and other issues from the comfort of our own home."

Absolute Fitness usually only has one or two clients visiting their private home gym at any given time, with the exception of their Saturday morning fitness classes which allow a maximum of five clients.

The company says it does not anticipate that the expansion will lead to additional customers, and therefore will not create issues with additional parking, traffic or noise.

The application remains before Planning and a decision is expected to be made by the end of September.
