Action stations - the Natwest Island Games are about to begin

Friday 26 June 2015

The weather is looking good to get out and about this weekend and support our home sides as they take on sports teams from around the world.

Most of the action in the NatWest Island Games starts on Sunday although for some sports it's still a day of rest or a chance to get some last-minute practice in.

Sunday sees the games really swing into action with a host of events lined up:

- Both the women's and men's cycling teams take to the road in the time trials on Sunday morning - the women starting at 9 am and the men at 11.15 am.

- The Athletics kicks off at the F.B. Fields with the men's and women's half marathon, the men's hammer, the women's triple jump, the women's 100 metres, the men's high jump, the men's 200 metres, the women's 400 metres, the men's 800 metres and the women's 1500 metres.

- Jersey's badminton team take on the Falkland Islands in the morning and Greenland in the afternoon.

- Jersey's basketball team play Guernsey at Fort Regent at lunchtime and the men take on the Isle of Man at 7.15 pm.

- Jersey play Alderney in the men's football at Springfield at lunchtime and our ladies team take on Greenland at 5pm.

- It'll be busy on the water as the Laser-Standard sailing race begins at St Aubin's Fort at 10.30 am and there will be shots fired at Crabbe and other shooting ranges around the Island as the shooting competition gets underway.

- Jersey take on Alderney at 11 am at the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre, they play Aland at 2.30 pm and the Isle of Man at 6 pm and there will be tennis served up at the Caesarean tennis club from 9 am.

- Our triathletes are limbering up for the men's event that starts at Les Jardins de la Mer on the Waterfront at 4.15 pm and the women's race starting from the same place at 4.30 pm.

- Jersey's men's volleyball team serve up their first match against Gotland at the newly created court at the Weighbridge at 4 pm and the women take on the Cayman Islands at 5 pm. You can see the Men's Jersey MM7 team play the Cayman Islands there at 6 pm.

- Golfers will be practising their swing on Sunday at the Royal Jersey Golf Club and at La Moye before their matches start on Monday and the swimmers will also be practising their strokes before their heats get underway on Monday as well.
