Adventure-loving young guns sought

Young guns with a penchant for adventure are being sought to join the Jersey Army Cadet Force.

The organisation trains up students aged between 12 and 18 in shooting, weapons handling, fieldcraft and navigation, while also helping them to get involved in community projects.

And there’s an opportunity to travel too.

Those involved visit the UK twice yearly to put their camping skills to the test, as well as taking part in military exercises in Guernsey.

“They learn skills such as self-reliance, leadership and discipline, as well as having a lot of fun,” a Jersey Army Cadet Force spokesperson said.

For those keen on adventures in camo, there’s an open day tomorrow from 10:30 to 12:00 at the Army Reserve Centre on Mount Bingham.

If they choose to keep going after that, the young people who choose to give cadet life a go will be given a free uniform, training mirroring the senior Army, “and some unforgettable experiences,” the force promises.
