Age Concern's home of 30 years up for sale

The pink house on Val Plaisant that has hosted an elderly support charity for 30 years could soon be someone's home.

Age Concern Jersey's Windsor House is up for sale for just under £1m, as the charity expands into a new premises across the road.

Part of the rationale for changing premises has been the growth of the charity, having gone from "40 or 50" members to around 300 in the past four years, according to Chair Ben Shenton.

This increase in demand can be explained by Jersey's population getting older, consistent with trends across Europe, and the charity increasing its services, Mr Shenton said.

Windsor House is for sale by unofficial tender through Maillard & Co, with a guide price of £950,000.

The Grade 3 Listed Val Plaisant house includes two kitchens, four bathrooms and 13 other rooms (bedrooms and living rooms), spread over four floors accessible by lift.

The house will need to be turned into housing after the charity sells it, as was set out in the early 1990s when Age Concern took over the house. How exactly this will happen and whether it will be converted into flats will ultimately be up to the purchaser, Mr Shenton said.

He confirmed that the charity is planning to keep its shop, which is in a separate wing of the house.
