Thursday 23 July 2015

Mont Orgueil will be the spectacular backdrop for a touring production of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice next month.

The American Drama Group Europe is including the castle at Gorey as part of a tour in which they’re performing in 49 castles and palaces around 11 European countries.

It’s the fourth time that the group has performed in Jersey.

The castle is being opened late, with the audience invited to turn up from 6 pm to enjoy a picnic before the performance starts at 7.30 pm.

Jo Falla, Jersey Heritage Venues Manager, said:  “We are very happy that ADG Europe are returning to Mont Orgueil Castle for another of their fantastic productions.

“The Castle makes the perfect dramatic backdrop for this play and we are sure it will be special event for all the family.”

The event is being sponsored by Credit Suisse.

Roy McGregor, CEO, for Credit Suisse in the Channel Islands said: “It’s wonderful to be involved in such a special event, which brings world-class entertainment to the local community in one of the many historic locations we’re blessed with on this island.

“It is set to be a memorable evening of theatre for the whole family, and we’re very proud to continue to work with Jersey Heritage as we go in to the fourth season of these fantastic performances.”
