Ministerial plans will be reviewed to see if they are doing enough to encourage the development of new housing and create affordable homes.
The Environment Scrutiny Panel has decided to focus on supply of housing and environmental policies for their first two reviews.
The chairman of the panel, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, said that both subjects were of great importance to Islanders.
His panel, which scrutinises the work of the Environment, Housing and Technical Services ministers, includes Deputies Judy Martin, Montfort Tadier and David Johnson.
They plan to meet all three ministers in January.
Mr Crowcroft said: “Our remit is wide-reaching and covers the work of three Ministers, all of whom we know will be bringing forward important proposals during the course of 2015 which will require our attention.
“To begin with, however, we will focus on two subjects of great importance to Islanders. First, ahead of the Strategic Plan debate we wish to examine what Ministers are doing in terms of the Island’s environment – and to see what more could be done.
“The supply of housing is also a key issue for many members of the public and we will also be looking to see what the Council of Ministers intends to do in that area to address concerns about supply.”
