Venezuelan takeaway seeks to expand

Wednesday 11 January 2023

Empanadas. tequeños, pepitos and perros calientes... Islanders will be able to enjoy some of these Venezuelan treats in a new restaurant if a takeaway's plan to expand succeeds.

Arepera La Tricolor, which offers Venezuelan street food and currently operates from 6a La Motte Street, is hoping to take over the vacant neighbouring No 6 to create a bar and seating area.

The unit is currently empty and was previously occupied by Topline Jewellers.

In documents submitted to the Planning Department, applicant Victor Nobrega says he wants to convert the shop at No 6 into a seating space and a small bar to support the takeaway premises he is currently renting.

He says there would be no structural changes to the building, as "all the work carried out will only be superficial in order to create seating areas, a counter at the back of the room which will serve as the bar counter, fridges and shelves for storage".

He adds that there would be more seating areas on the upper level and improvements to the toilet facilities.
