Armed police arrested a man who was allegedly "making threats of violence with a gun" in town this afternoon.
The 43-year-old man was found to be in possession of a BB gun on King Street, according to the States of Jersey Police.
In a statement, police said: "At approximately 16:00, police received a call of a male acting suspiciously in a shop in King Street, making threats of violence with a gun.
"Firearms officers were deployed and found the man outside the shop, in possession of a BB gun.
"The 43-year-old was arrested under the Firearms (Jersey) Law and taken into custody."
More than half a dozen officers, including at least three armed police, were on the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, police descended from the Charing Cross end of town and apprehended the man between Maison de Jersey and Voisins.
The man was pinned to the ground.
He was seen to be carrying a suitcase which was taken away by police officers.
