ART FIX: Orders up! A weekend of produce and performance

Friday 18 October 2024

From a cider festival to DJ sessions or even dining with Basil and Sybil Faulty, this weekend's cultural agenda is packed with produce and performance.

Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here's this week's offering...

La Faîs'sie d'Cidre

Jersey Heritage's annual cider-making festival - La Faîs'sie d'Cidre - returns to Hamptonne on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October.

Designed to celebrate and preserve the island's culture, festivalgoers will witness hands-on-cider-making amongst a mix of live music, food and entertainment between 10:00 and 17:00 on both days.

Sponsored by Ogier, the event will also feature samples of last year's cider and volunteers and horses will work together again this year to press 160 sacks of apples for samples at next year’s festival.

'Hidden Depths' at JARO

A new exhibition celebrating the need for nature conservation opens at JARO gallery this Saturday 19 October.

Local acclaimed artist Nick Romeril has compiled work alongside emerging creative Cristabelle Jégard to depict the power and beauty of the sea and nature's remote ecosystems in 'Hidden Depths' and why their preservation is so important.

The artwork will be on display until Saturday 9 November, you can find out more HERE.

DJ taster

Jersey Academy of Music are welcoming young wannabe disc jockeys to spin the decks at a taster session this Friday 18 October.

Students aged between 11 and 18 can explore beat mixing and top of the range equipment between 16:30 and 18:00 led by an industry professional.

Visit their Facebook page for more information.

Carte Blanche

Local ballet company Ballet d'Jerri are bringing a new performance to Jersey Arts Centre, which was curated by the dancers themselves.

Carte Blanche is expected to be a performance of bold and boundary-breaking contemporary dance.

It runs from Friday 18 to Saturday 19 October.

Shore to Field

Local charcoal artist Andrea McVeigh opened her latest exhibition at the Harbour Gallery this week, showcasing Jersey's "enduring natural beauty" and iconic features in Shore to Field.

The proceeds of the preview evening were donated to Jersey Hospice after Andrea was "inspired" by the writings of Simon Boas who passed away at the charity earlier this year after being diagnosed with terminal throat cancer.

The exhibition is open until Sunday 10 November.

 Faulty Towers experience

The "world-renowned" immersive comedy show Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience is returning to Jersey this weekend at the Hotel Ambassadeur.

Witness Basil and Sybil Faulty boss each other and Manuel around in a hilarious two-hour dining performance. Tickets include a three-course-meal and plenty of surprises are promised during the show.

The evening shows have sold out but there is still space for the matinee performance at 13:00 on Saturday 19 October. Book HERE.

Local musician and composer Ant Noel is performing his original live music experience blending his songs and theatre in a new event at the Ommaroo Hotel.

Midnight Joanna, supported by ArtHouse Jersey's development grant and the Creative Island Partnership, is set in a boozy piano lounge and features a nine-piece band and cast of actors who will perform as characters in the songs.

A Masquerade of Marvels

There's less than a week left to buy tickets for ADHD Jersey's Masquerade Ball, which is taking place next Saturday 26 October.

The "creative" black-tie fundraising event, described as “an evening of elegance, artistry and advocacy”, will feature a masquerade ball, a three-course dinner, dancing and an auction of artworks and experiences created or donated by people with ADHD.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite until Wednesday 23 October.

Taking place at The L’Horizon Hotel the auction will include handmade jewellery, artwork and homemade crafts, some of which can be viewed below:
