From a physical theatre show shining a light on unconscious bias and a photography exhibition celebrating the beauty of older women to a Bavarian beer festival celebrating the culture of Germany... this week's Art Fix is sure to open your eyes to something you've never seen before.
Every weekend, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.
Here's this week's offering...
‘What Do You See?’ is a brand new piece of exciting theatre devised by the celebrated contemporary physical theatre company, The PappyShow.
The show shines a light on unconscious bias, delving into assumptions we might make about others, many of which we may not realise we have made, and exploring how these assumptions can play into the bigger picture of the world around us. However, despite dealing with some serious themes the production is packed to the brim with joy, colour, vibrancy and exquisitely intelligent humour.
This challenging-yet-fun-in-equal-measure production will invigorate the St. James Centre on St. James Street in St Helier for two nights only: Friday 7 & Saturday 8 October 2022.
Tickets and more information can be found online. Tickets are £20 with a small number of pay-what-you-can tickets available if money’s a bit tight at the moment.
A project by photographer Oliver Doran that has seen 40 women over the age of 40 have their portrait taken is to be exhibited for a one-weekend-only showing.
The project focuses on celebrating the strength wisdom and beauty of women over 40.
Oliver said: “It all began with an idea. I want women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and over to feel seen, heard and appreciated.”
“It’s all about capturing individual beauty and celebrating lives and legacy.”
The free entry exhibition will open to the public on the Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October from 12:00 – 19:00 at Oliver Doran Studios, First Floor, 1 – 3 La Colomberie, St Helier, JE2 4QB.
