An exhibition by one of Jersey’s leading contemporary artists, Kay Le Seelleur Ara aka ‘Mrs Magnitude', has opened this week.

'Mrs Magnitude’s Emporium' will feature hundreds of original works of art, paintings and drawings that Kay has made since a life changing moment in 2019, and promises to be a fun and wild journey into the brilliantly inventive, sharp humour and gender politics of Kay's extraordinary body of work.

Kay Le Seelleur Ara regularly posts her work on Instagram and has gained a diverse and growing audience of followers from around the world, ranging from fans in the Australian outback to world-class New York painters and critics.

Her work can be explored via her three Instagram handles; @kay_leseelleur@kays_telly_doodles and @mrs_magnitude.

'Mrs Magnitude’s Emporium' will run at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House until 20 August 2023.

This weekend, the artist will be popping into the gallery to speak with visitors.

Poetry Workshop

Poet Traci O’Dea will lead a workshop in which attendees will read ekphrastic poetry – poetry inspired by another art form – and then create their own poems inspired by the work displayed as part of 'Mrs Magnitude's Emporium' in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The ekphrastic poetry workshop will take place at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House from 18:00-20:00.

There will also be a performance event of the ekphrastic poetry with refreshments on Friday 4 August from 18:00-20:00.

Everyone is welcome to this relaxed evening of socialising and poetry reading amongst the brilliantly inventive and colourful works of Kay Le Seelleur Ara.

Tickets for both events can be booked via Eventbrite

Pop-up Park

In collaboration with Public Voice: Common Ground, a free drop-in clay-base workshop is taking place at the pop-up green park in Weighbridge Place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July.

Led by London-based artist and facilitator Jo Pearl, this event is set to be a playful way to involve the public in a creative conversation, capturing how people think St Helier's public spaces can be improved. No architectural masterplan, it hopes to instead be an idea-scape, capturing hopes and insight from islanders.

No pottery experience is required and everyone is invited, with free ice cream for the first 100 makers.

The workshops will take place on Friday 28 July from 15:00-19:00, and Saturday 29 July from 10:30-13:00.

Brass Souls will be playing from 17:45-19:00 on Friday evening.

Art by the Harbourside

The Harbour Gallery's summer exhibition 'Art by the Harbourside' is now open, featuring an array of work by over 70 local artists.

Located at The Harbour Gallery at 19 The Quay, Commercial Buildings, the exhibition is open every day from 09:30-17:30 until 10 September.

Summer BBQ

On Sunday 30 July from 14:00 to 17:00, islanders are invited to join the St. Clement’s Battle of Flowers Association at St. Clement’s Parish Hall for their annual BBQ… and bring a bottle!
