Here's this week's offering...
Tonight is the final night to see the Samarès Players' performance of The Comedy of Errors.
Shakespeare’s shortest and funniest play, performed in the beautiful grounds of Samarès Manor. This colourful, lively and sparkling production has something for everyone: physical comedy, music, dance, magic and, of course, the Bard’s beautiful words.
Guests are invited to "bring your family, bring your friends, bring a picnic and laugh until your sides split!"
Picnicking from 18:00 with pre-show entertainment from 19:15. Tickets can be purchased online via Jersey Arts Centre.
Between 14 and 17 July, Jersey Arts Centre will be presenting the premiere of a brand new play, written by local playwright Jacqueline Mézec, all about the life and work of Claude Cahun.
During the Occupation, together with her life partner Marcel Moore, Cahun engages all of her skills as a writer and artist, risking her life to heroically resist the Nazis through her persona The Soldier With No Name.
'CAHUN – a retrospective' will be performed at JAC by a group of nine local actors and is provocative, inspiring and moving with its black humour, vivid storytelling and poetry.
The Jersey Summer Exhibition continues until 26 July at CCA Galleries International.
The work displayed in the exhibition has been selected by a panel of professional artists and critics, and is shown in a group selling exhibition.
Now in its sixth year, the Jersey Summer Exhibition is expected to help launch the careers of promising Jersey artists, as well as enforcing that of those already established.
The exhibition is open on weekdays from 12:00-18:00.
Robert Alan will be exhibiting a selection of new artwork, entitled Distant Shores at Le Hocq Tower on 9 and 10 July from 10:00 until 18:00.
The artwork is based on drawing and painting the coastline of Jersey in the outdoors.
Robert said: “The use of my immediate landscape as inspiration for my work has been an ever-evolving subject. My aim is to create artwork that describes not just the physical aspects of a place but the sensation of being there. Sometimes the paint is affected by the rain or sand that has been blown on to the surface of the artwork.
“I often intentionally add materials from the environment into the work including painting with seawater or thickening the paint with sand. I will constantly add marks, layers and textures and pull them back and extract areas to slowly reveal the artwork and help it portray a constantly changing shoreline or an ancient feeling harbour.
“This is the fifth exhibition I have put on at Le Hocq Tower and the setting has continued to be perfect for my artwork as it encompasses the ever-changing tidal landscape, busy fishing boat moorings and layers of history that my artwork aspires to imply.”
Local singer-songwriter Rich Allo is currently on a UK and Ireland tour - dubbed “The Tornado Tour” as a nod to one of his album’s singles - and will be bringing his music back to Jersey on Saturday 16 July at Trinity Parish Hall.
Rich said: "I’ll be performing lots of new material from the album as well as some previous songs I don’t often get to play live. There will also, for the first time, be merchandise on sale!"
Tickets are £5 and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
