Athletes bid farewell to Jersey 2015

Monday 06 July 2015

An action packed week that saw Jersey's athletes clear leaders at the top of the medal table with an amazing 50 golds, 54 silver and 29 bronze came to a close on Friday night.

Thousands of athletes and their supporters flocked into the Games Village at Howard Davis Park for the closing ceremony where Jersey returned the Island Games flag so that it could be passed on to Gotland - the next island to host the Games in 2017.

After a week when the sun really shone with searing temperatures, International Island Games Association Chairman Jorgen Pettersson thanked Jersey for letting everyone involved in the Games shine too.

Once the formalities were over it was time for all the athletes and their supporters to party with live music from Jersey Bounce and a fireworks display before the final curtain came down.

Chairman of Gotland 2017 Lars Samuelsson said: "We are very proud to be the next host and will make every effort to make our Games as good as this week in Jersey."

Saturday saw one of the busiest days at the Airport so far this year as all the teams involved headed off home.
