Having been involved in major UK incidents such as the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the Buncefield oil explosion, Jersey's new Director of Health and Safety brings considerable experience to her new role.
Elaine Harbour has taken up the position at the head of the Health and Safety Inspectorate after more than 20 years working in the UK and abroad. Her appointment follows the retirement of Tammy Fage earlier this year.
Ms Harbour helped shape the response protocol for major incidents following the 2005 explosion at the Buncefield oil storage facility in Hertfordshire. More recently she managed a team responsible for setting up a new Building Safety Regulator in response to the Grenfell Tower fire in west London in 2017.

Mrs Fage, who worked as a biomedical scientist at the General Hospital for ten years from 1988, joined the H&SI in the same year as a trainee inspector and became director of the organisation in 2014.
She said she was looking forward to relaxation and international travel during her retirement, adding: "I am proud of the positive and professional relationships the Inspectorate has developed with key stakeholders to help them take ownership and manage significant health and safety risks, leading to improvements in our high-risk industries, in particular in the construction sector."
