Benches added to Haut Du Mont tragedy memorial site

Three benches have been placed at the current Haut Du Mont memorial site at Mount Bingham.

The memorial is in place to commemorate the 10 islanders who lost their lives in the Pier Road explosion last month.

The benches have been placed following calls from islanders, and have been supplied by by Acorn Woodshack.

It is unclear whether the area will be the site of a permanent memorial.

St. Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft is among those to have called for a permanent tribute, following discussions with parishioners.

In December, he said: "The discussion I had was about whether it would be right to rebuild on the site for housing, or whether creating some form of memorial would be more appropriate.

"It is definitely something that I think should be considered further, and it would seem to make sense to do something in that area, if not at that exact location."

An investigation into the explosion remains ongoing and is being led by Detective Superintendent Alison Fossey.
