Big deal for Dan

Jersey’s top triathlete hopes his new sponsorship deal will help him become a major force on the worldwide stage and encourage more young Islanders to take up the sport at school.

Double UK Ironman Champion Dan Halksworth has a one-year deal with law firm Davies & Ingram Advocates during which time he’ll represent the Island at the Commonwealth Games and the Ironman World Championships, and next year’s NatWest Island Games.

Dan said: “I would like to introduce children to the triathlon and I hope to form partnerships with schools so students can learn what an exciting event it is. Hopefully, they will take it up and the Island will see champions in the future.”

The sponsorship came about after Advocate Claire Davies and her husband Russell returned from watching an Ironman triathlon in Canada to find that the athlete in their holiday photos was Dan.

Mr Davies said: “Dan is an exciting talent who is also a fantastic ambassador for the Island and a role model for the many Islanders of all ages who partake in a variety of sports in the Island, the UK and farther afield.’

Dan finished 24th in his debut world championships last year. The 26 year-old also holds the record for the fastest local runner in the Jersey Marathon – with a time of 2.40.15.
