The big screen heads for the coast

Friday 05 February 2016

Do you fancy watching a cult classic alfresco this summer at the top spot for the Island’s surfers - down in St Ouen’s Bay?

The surfing thriller Point Break is one of ten films being screened at different spots around the Island this year as part of the National Trust’s campaign to protect our coastline.

Le Don Hilton, Le Catel Fort, Frances Le Sueur Centre and Grève de Lecq Barracks will all help stage their season of cinema.

The National Trust’s Marketing and Events Manager Donna Le Marrec said: “The Coastal Cinema and other themed events that we are delivering this year not only mark the tenth anniversary of this important campaign, but also seeks to engage with our supporters in a fun way.

“We are delighted that all of the funds raised from the cinema series, kindly supported by Quilter Cheviot Investment Management, will go towards the Coastline Campaign - helping us to protect Jersey’s remaining, unspoilt coastline for everyone, forever.”

Islanders with young families will also get to watch a movie outside when Finding Nemo hits the big screen at the Parade Ground at Grève de Lecq Barracks.

All the films have a sea or coastal theme and tie in with the Trust’s plans to offer a range of new guided walks like their ‘La Pulente Wracking Gullies’ and the ‘Seaweed Gardens of L’Etacq’, as well as their low water tours, ‘Sound of the Shores’ initiative, ‘Shark Egg Hunt Challenge’ and their popular ‘Rock pool rambles’ for youngsters.

Tim Childe, head of International and the Jersey Office of Quilter Cheviot, said: “We are very happy to be supporting the Coastline Campaign and look forward to the cinema series bringing together local friends and family in aid of a very worthwhile and important cause.”
